Beschreibungen

This book attempts to demonstrate that no subject is inappropriate for poetry if it is artfully presented. The signal events of life are varied and often limitless, from joy and celebration, to hope and love, to loss and death. Verse, therefore, can be a resource and medium for interpreting these experienced events, and, often, for achieving some sense of triumphant resolution.
Thomas Ronald Vaughan has spent his career as a healthcare administrator and a parish minister in two mainline denominations. This is his fifth book of poetry, and he has written two works of theology. He and his wife, Jayne, live in the mountains of western North Carolina.
“English poet A. E. Housman wrote, ‘The essential business of poetry . . . is to harmonise the sadness of the Universe, and it is somehow more sustaining and healing than prose.’ In his latest collection, composed largely in a time of COVID, Thomas Ronald Vaughan offers reflections on life which, while facing its struggles and challenges, yet offers the reader the strength and the resolve to discover its beauties and consolations. Highly recommended!”
“In this exquisite collection of poems, Vaughan retreads space inhabited by poets, philosophers, saints, novelists, artists, and other notables. He opens a new window on their thoughts and works, offering fresh insights and reflections. With a poet’s pen, he navigates terrain between hopefulness and despair. He clearly sees and celebrates the beauty in God’s creation, and knows that pain and suffering are our common humanity.”
